There’s one Sydney station you should maybe avoid after dark.

IF YOU’RE looking for cheap thrills this long weekend, try your luck at Macquarie Fields train station.

A number of ghost-hunting websites have speculated that the Sydney station is home to the ghost of a crying teenage girl, who is splattered in blood.

They say that after the last train departs (which is usually around 12.30am), the transculent girl will appear appear with a “dark splatter of blood covering her front”.

One paranormal website, Urban Ghosts, says: “Some say they’ve seen her shrieking in terror at some unknown sight, while others have reported that she simply sits in the middle of the tracks and cries and cries.”

Urban Ghosts has included her on its list of ten “creepy phantoms and urban legends”.

A number of other sites specialising in ghost hunting have claimed she does indeed exist. The Sydney Spirit Stalkers - who “stalk the paranormal” - say her “moans and groans” can be heard when the station is nearly empty.

The site reads: “Someone has once reported that they swear they saw a young girl wearing dancing clothes, covered in what looked like to be blood in her chest area (she was clutching her chest).

“She lurks around the station moaning and groaning. She also sits in the middle of the station, and just stares and cries. No one has reported any violence/harm done by the ghost.”

To be fair, she sounds about as harmless as Moaning Myrtle from the Harry Potter series, but hey, that character was still pretty damn annoying.

It’s no secret that Australia is jam-packed with haunted locations.

The ghost of Emily Bollard, a girl who was run over by a train in the Redbank Range Tunnel in Piction, is believed to lurk through the tunnel, which is now no longer in use.

In Penrith, the ghost of Sarah Marshall is also said to materialise if you get too close to her grave. According to Sydney Spirit Stalkers, she is known to harass young men, although many women claim to have seen her ghost appear in the trees above.

The Fremantle Arts Centre in Western Australia is believed to be one of the southern hemisphere’s most active haunted locations.

Ghost hunters who investigated it reported hearing creepy voices saying things like “Those are chains” and “It’s not cold”.

The National Film and Sound Archive in Canberra is said to be another hot spot for ghost activity, as before 1984 it operated as the Australian Institute of Anatomy, a place where human body parts were preserved.

One contractor claims to have been pinned against a wall in the basement by an unexplained presence.

Whatever it is, maybe some things are just better left unknown.
