THE return of mega-hit series Game of Thrones has coincided with a surge in demand for locations featured in the show.

Hours after the sixth season went to air on April 25, flight search site Cheapflights.com reported a spike in inquiries about Scotland, Ireland and Morocco.

But it is Spain that is tipped to draw the most interest from fans as the season unfolds.

A number of locations are being featured in series six, including the medieval town of Gerona, Santa Florentina Castle north of Barcelona and the semidesert plains of Bardenas Reales in Navarra.

Beyond Spain, the fishing village of Ballintoy in Northern Ireland steps in as the fictional home of House of Greyjoy and Dubrovnik in Croatia returns as the setting of the capital city of the Seven Kingdoms with its cobbled streets, medieval layout and countless towers.
